On Sunday March 22nd, 2020 Fox Sports 1 broadcasted the first ever eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series event. The virtual event was in lieu of the Cup Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway that had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Drivers from NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series, NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series, and even a few NASCAR figures got the chance to compete in the simulation race.
Timmy Hill raced his #66 RoofClaim.com Toyota Camry in the 100 lap race from his home in North Carolina. Timmy has quite the track record in iRacing, with over 600 1st place finishes. His experience helped him dominate for the majority of the race.
It was a battle for the finish making it an exciting end. Timmy Hill and Dale Earnhart Jr. were pushing each other for the top spot for much of the last 10 laps. Then, from behind came Denny Hamlin #11, racing barefoot for the win. Coming off turn 4 Hamlins front quarter panel connected with Jr.’s car pushing him off the track just after the finish.
Timmy Hill finished 3rd behind Earnhart and had a great day of racing. The iRacing event had race fans talking, and was a needed dose of excitement for all who participated and tuned in to watch.
